| This study of the 1979 outbreak of anthrax-related deaths in Sverdlovsk, Russia, is by a member of an American team that went there in the 1990s to investigate. Though at first tainted meat was said to be the cause of the deaths, both Russian officials and the American team concluded that the probable cause was the accidental release of anthrax powder into the air from a military base called Compound 19, where biological weapons were manufactured. |
